Dental Health

February is Dental Health month.  I have read several books including The Lion Who Wouldn’t Brush His Teeth.  We have had several discussions about brushing, flossing, and visiting the dentist.  So, today we conducted a little experiment.  I put one egg in water and one egg in Coke to soak for the day.

At the end of the day the egg soaking in Coke was stained brown.

Then I used a toothbrush and toothpaste to brush the egg.  The children were shocked at how much of the brown coloring came off the egg.  We then talked some more about how important it is to take care of our teeth by brushing twice a day.

Lenten Bracelet

We have been singing a song that talks about prayer, fasting, and alms giving during Lent.

Today the children made a Lenten bracelet.  The children began by counting out six beads of each of the 3 colors.  Purple represents prayer.  Black represents fasting.  Green represents alms giving.  Then the children had to string the beads in the pattern purple, black, and green.

Pet Vet Center

I stayed after school yesterday and changed the house center into the Pet Vet Center.  The children were so excited when they saw it today.  I loved listening to their conversations while they were playing!!

Noah’s Ark

This week the children have been learning about Bible story Noah’s Ark.  I read several books, we listened to and sang several songs, and the children completed a Noah’s Ark craft.  The craft shows Noah and some of the animals with the rain (40 days and nights) and also the rainbow (a reminder that God will never flood the earth again).

Letter Qq

This week we focused on the letter Qq.  We talked about what it looks like, the sound it makes, and how to write it.  The children created queens with their capital letter Q.
