P.E. Fun - Ahoy Matey!

I am sorry that I don’t remember what this game is called.  The children love it so I am sure that they can tell you!  I know that the purple mats are the ships.  The children on the ship are only allowed 1 foot off.  If they have both feet off, they have to go complete 10 jumping jacks.  On each of the ship’s four corners, there is either a cone or bowling pin.  The people on the ships are try to knock over all 4 of another ship in order to sink it.  If a ship is sunk, the whole crew has to complete 10 jumping jacks.   The children on the scooters are in the lifeboats.  They are collecting the balls and bring them back to their shipmates.

Congratulations to Micah!! He is our first grade Student of the Month winner.  His parents wrote a beautiful letter about him.  I thought I would share it with all of you.

**I would like to add that Micah is such a harder worker.
He is always so polite and has a smile on his face.
He is a joy to be around!

Homemade Kazoos

As we finished our science chapter on movement and sound I decided to give the children homemade kazoos.  They are made with paper towel rolls, wax paper and a rubber band.  Some of them decorated them with their crayons.  They had a hard time with humming instead of blowing, but they got better.  I am sure the parents are happy with me about now. :0

Grammar Egg Hunt

We did have an egg hunt but it was a grammar egg hunt.  Each child was allowed to find 3 eggs.  Each egg had a word inside.  I had three baskets.  They were labeled noun, adjective, and verb. The children opened their eggs, read the words, and put them in the correct basket.  Once they were finished, we went over the words and discussed whether they were in the correct basket.  I took pictures of them hunting but forgot to take them in the classroom.

How do objects move?

In our science lesson, we read that objects, people, or animals can move in many ways.  These movements include up, down, side to side, straight, zig zag, and around curves.  So, the children made a marble maze game on a paper plate.  They will use the different ways the marble can move to play the game.  The marble will start on the black dot.  Then the children will have to move the plate to make the marble go through the colored paper in the correct order.  It is hard, but they had fun trying!
