P.E. - Sinking Ships

Have you ever tried to sink a ship?   The children love this game so I am sure they can give you more details.  The purple mats are the ships.  The children on the ship are only allowed 1 foot off.  If they have both feet off, they have to go complete 10 jumping jacks.  On each of the ship’s four corners, there is either a cone or bowling pin.  The people on the ships are try to knock over all 4 of another ship in order to sink it.  If a ship is sunk, the whole crew has to complete 10 jumping jacks.   The children on the scooters are in the lifeboats.  They are collecting the balls and bring them back to their crew mates.

Ahoy Matey!

The children are working hard logging in to their Think Central account.  Each time we need to use Think Central in the classroom the children have to login with their email address and password.  I have put the information in their school folder to copy.  They are already getting better!

Address

In social studies class today we were talking about addresses.  The book teaches about the street name and the house number.  So, I made some paper envelopes with addresses (house number and street name).  The children them had to find the correct house to deliver the envelopes.  They had to look at the street name and the house numbers.  I think I should have made it harder.

Addition - Parts & Whole

Today in math we were using dominoes to practice addition.  We are adding two numbers together, so we are  practicing part + part = whole.  We are also leaning to use the terms addend and sum.

Another Busy Day!

We started off our day by getting to know our friends a little better.  The children were given a paper that had different activities and likes stated in boxes.  They had to get each classmate to sign 1 box that tells something about his/herself.

     Book Boxes

Each Monday the children will choose 6 books to keep in their book box for the week.  The children will keep them next to their desk each day.  Whenever they have a few spare minutes they can always read and explore the books.

During math class today we reviewed counting and writing numbers.  We began with practicing the proper formation of the numbers on dry erase boards.

Then the children went on a counting hunt.  I taped cards at random around the room.  The children had to find all 8 cards.  When they found the card they had to count how many of each school supply was on the card and write it on the worksheet.  A few of the children said “I loved that game!”  I guess I’ll have to make some more.
