Force and Motion
During science class we were talking about the ways things move. For example: forward and backward, side to side, zigzag, in a straight line, and around a curve. So I thought it would be fun to make a game. The children glued 5 colored strips anywhere on a plate making sure a marble could rolled under it.
Then, they added a black dot to be the starting point.
Next, they made a card for each strip by coloring a shape with the matching colors.
Last, they played the game. They mixed up the card and then laid them out. They put the marble on the starting dot and tried to roll it through the strips in the order of the cards.
I made a mistake. I should have had them make them earlier in the day and let the glue dry longer before they played with them. I noticed several children had strips come off during dismissal. I am sorry!!

Happy TWOsday!!
We had fun today with TWOsday activities!
We started by coloring our Happy 2’s Day crowns given to us by
Mrs. Wehmeyer.
I think the favorite activity was playing Trashket Ball for math. They were each given 2 chances to throw the paper ball into the trash can. We made a tally chart of the results. We then used that to make a bar graph and answered questions about it.
The children are lucky to be in first grade on TWOsday 2/22/22! We created a time capsule today that they will open on 3/3/33 when they are seniors in high school. I think that is pretty cool!!

Force - Speed
As we continue to talk about force this week, we discussed how the amount of force used can affect speed. Speed is defined as how fast or slow something moves. So, I thought we would experiment with toy cars. We discussed that the more force we use the faster something will go. What a better way to practice than with racing cars!
They each had a turn so we had three races.
Then the winners of those three races had a race off.

Science - Force - Push and Pull
Today in science class, we were talking about making things move using force. The two types of force we talked about are push and pull. So, I gave them a ballon cup popper to experiment with pieces of sponge. They put a piece of a sponge in the cup, pulled back on the ballon, and then let go. That pushed the sponge out. I loved hearing the laughter.
Stretch the hole of the balloon over the cup. I taped them to get them to stay. I bought a sponge and cut it up into pieces.
