Christmas Door Contest
Here is a picture of our Christmas door for the contest. My idea was to use T’was the Night Before Christmas. Each children created his/her own mouse, colored and cut out a stocking, and traced and cut out his/her hand for the fire in the fireplace. A couple of children helped color the trees on the rug , and one wrote the note.
Using a 100 Chart
On Friday, we were talking about 10 more/less and 1 more/ones less. We were using a 100 chart to discuss how to locate the number. I would call out a number. The children would place a see through stone on that number. Then I would ask them to move it to the number that is 1 more/less or 10 more/less. We would take about how they moved the stone. 1 more moves the stone to the right. 1 less moves the stone to the left. 10 more moves the stone down. 10 less moves the stone up.
Drop the Sticks Game
The children have been practicing counting and tens and ones, and creating them with ten rods and one cubes. So, I thought they would like this game. They are given popsicle sticks with dots on them. One side has ten and the other side has one. They hold all the sticks in their hand and then drop them on the floor. Then, they sort them by tens and ones and write the number. Their partner would check them to make sure they wrote e the correct number and then they would change jobs.
